In celebration of IDAHOBIT 2025 and this year’s theme “The Power of Communities,” this blog shines a light on the grassroots groups across the UK that are transforming queer lives. From peer-led HIV mentoring schemes and trans support networks to refugee-led spaces and groups uplifting LGBTQI people of colour, these communities offer more than just support – they create chosen family. We also honour historic groups like LGSM and the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre who paved the way. Because when queer people come together, change happens.
In celebration of Trans+ History Week 2025, we’re spotlighting the remarkable trans+ trailblazers often left out of mainstream education. From the respected māhū of Tahiti and Hawai’i to Roberta Cowell, Britain’s first known trans woman to undergo gender affirmation surgery, these stories prove trans+ people have always been here. This week, we reclaim history and honour those who paved the way.
This blog post marks the final piece in a special series for Lesbian Visibility Day 2025 by spotlighting five inspiring LGBTQ+ sportswomen who are making waves both in sport and in society. From footballers Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, and Vivianne Miedema to badminton champion Kirsty Gilmour and golfer Georgia Hall, each of these women is using her platform to champion causes like endometriosis awareness, mental health, period equity, queer visibility, and global humanitarian work. Their impact goes far beyond the field - proving that representation in sport truly matters.
