The new year is upon us – hard to believe as it seems like just yesterday we were leaving the cinema in tears after All of Us Strangers! 2025 brings a whole new host of great queer things to look forward to, including new music from LGBTQ+ artists and of course, Pride season once more. Here’s some of the queer things we’re excited about in 2025.

Chappell Roan Will Headline Primavera and Leeds/Reading

If 2024 was the year of the lesbian renaissance and mainstreaming of sapphic culture, then 2025 is the year of the complete WLW takeover. LGBTQ+ icon and lesbian queen Chappell Roan will be headlining both Primavera and Leeds/Reading this summer – the perfect backdrop for her soon-to-be-released lesbian country anthem “The Giver” about how only women can get the job done. There’s only one thing left to say, can you play a song with a f-ing beat?!

The Remake of The Wedding Banquet Comes Out

There are tons of new LGBTQ+ films gracing the big screen in 2025, but The Wedding Banquet is the one we’re most looking forward to! A modern remake of the 1993 film of the same name, the movie follows bisexual Taiwanese immigrant Wai-Tung’s decision to marry a woman from mainland China to get his conservative parents off his back. When his folks visit from Taiwan to celebrate, he’s forced to perform an elaborate charade, roping in not just his bride-to-be, but his “roommate”/actual boyfriend, too.

LGBT History Month Returns

Every February sees the return of LGBT History Month , an event celebrating the rich history of the queer community and educating the masses on important LGBTQ+ figures who have been erased. The theme for this year’s celebration is Activism and Social Change, with Octavia Hill, Ivor Cummings, Annie Kenney, Charlie Kiss and Olaudah Equiano chosen as the five notable figures. Watch for our blog for more information about these activist icons!

LGBTQ+ Football Players Battle It Out in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025

When it comes to LGBTQ+ representation, women’s professional football has long since bested the men’s – something we’ll see in the upcoming UEFA Women’s Euro finals in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July. England is playing in Group D against France, Wales and the Netherlands, and as usual, the Lionesses are set to put the WLW in the women’s game. We can’t wait for the TikTok fam cams.

Pride Season Comes Back With a Vengeance

Being queer is fun all year round, but especially during Pride Month when cities are strewn with rainbow celebrations and we can finally show the straights how to throw a good party. Pride celebrations in the UK start as early as May, with plenty of smaller Pride events up and down the country celebrating the LGBTQ+ community without the crowds. Manchester friends, don’t miss the city’s Family Pride event, grassroots Pink Picnic and of course, Manc Pride itself.

Wicked Part Two Hits The Cinema

Sure, Wicked isn’t marketed as an LGBTQ+ story. But who are we kidding? After the success of Wicked Part One in 2024, the sequel will explore the consequences of Elphaba’s decision to defy the Wizard. Expect more theatre kids belting show tunes, an even smoother-talking Jonathan Bailey and of course, countless Gelphie . After all, what’s gayer than the actual author writing that Glinda ‘resided in a castle with 100 of the most beautiful women in Oz at her beck and call.’
